Energie Cost Budgeting

Background

Leibniz Universität Hannover is pursuing a project to implement energy cost budgeting in order to achieve its climate and environmental protection goals in accordance with the guidelines for climate and environmental protection. The university's Integrated Climate protection concept, updated and expanded in 2023, makes clear that reducing total energy consumption is necessary to achieve climate neutrality. Furthermore, LUH's energy costs increase annually, and legal requirements demand further savings efforts.

Objective

The project aims to raise employees' awareness of energy use by presenting energy costs and consumption transparently and accounting for them on a decentralized basis. This approach is intended to reveal saving potentials and motivate employees to actively participate in climate and resource protection. Accompanying training and workshops will help identify individual energy-saving potentials. Employees are encouraged to implement appropriate measures either independently or in collaboration with the building management department. The goal is to reduce both total energy consumption and energy costs. Through energy cost budgeting, the university hopes to bring about a sustainable change in energy awareness and consumption, thereby realizing both ecological and economic benefits.
