LUH students successful in the Youth Climate Competition

To strengthen sustainability and climate protection at LUH, the commitment and dedication of all staff and students are required. To motivate, there are various competitions and awards to honor outstanding contributions from LUH members. Submit your ideas and help us achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2031 together!

Competitions and Prices at the LUH

  • Leibniz Talents

    President's Award for Outstanding Academic Achievements and Special Commitment. 

    Award Categories: Category 1:

    • Outstanding Academic Achievements
    • Category 2: Special Commitment within LUH

    In both award categories, applications explicitly related to sustainability transformation are encouraged, including: - The work connects the academic discipline with sustainability topics in an innovative way in the spirit of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (Category 1). - The student initiative/engagement contributes to transforming LUH into a solidarity-based, gender- and diversity-sensitive, and ecologically sustainable institution (Category 2).

    The LUH Teaching Award is given in three categories:

    • Category 1: Motivation and Inspiration
    • Category 2: Strategy and Transfer
    • Category 3: Professionalization and Teaching Culture

Competitions and Prizes in Hannover

  • City Cycling

    Register, cycle, protect the climate: The "Stadtradeln" is a competition where the goal is to ride as many kilometers as possible on a bicycle in 21 days. This helps reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector and promotes cycling and cycling infrastructure in cities. In Hanover, citizens also participate annually in this nationwide event—among them the team from Leibniz Universität Hannover. For registration, please select “Kommune Hannover” and the team “Leibniz Universität Hannover.” Various prizes can be won.

  • Youth Climate Competition

    Under the motto "Putting good ideas into practice!", the Lower Saxony Ministry for the Environment, Energy, and Climate Protection supports young people in implementing their climate project ideas. The "Youth Climate Competition Lower Saxony" takes place twice a year for this purpose – with the prize being the necessary funds for implementation. A total of €500,000 is available per year for this from 2023 to 2026.
