- Abstract
H-DisNet, a Horizon 2020 project funded by the EU, develops solutions for capturing the major part of available waste/excess heat with thermo-chemical systems. Low-grade thermo-chemical fluids (TCF) allow the exploitation of very low grade excess heat of temperatures less than 60°C. Excess heat is transformed to the thermo-chemical potential by the use of dessicant brine solutions. This potential is stored, transported and finally exploited in thermo-chemical processes for drying, space heating and cooling at the demand side. Heat of different temperature levels, especially low temperatures not exploitable by conventional district heating technology, can be integrated within a hybrid network approach including thermal and thermo-chemical potentials. The technology of H-DisNet is a basis to develop a multifunctional smart network, which matches different locations and schedules of supply and demand that includes low grade heat. It uses absorption and desorption processes at different temperature levels and allows for excess heat exploitation with temperatures as low as 30°C and lower given the right conditions. By using TCF with high energy density in the state of TCF-concentrate, reuse or recycling of specific low temperature amounts of residual heat becomes possible in the regeneration process.
